New York Transit Museum Holiday Train Show
This holiday season, the New York Transit Museum’s Grand Central Gallery & Store presents the Holiday Train Show, a cherished tradition that captures the magic of miniature trains and New York City during the holidays.
Lionel model trains, including Metro-North, the whimsical Polar Express, and vintage subway sets, travel a 34-foot, two-level “O” gauge layout that begins at a miniature Grand Central Terminal and winds past New York landmarks on the way to the North Pole. To mark the 40th anniversary of MTA Arts & Design, the 2025 display features work by artists James Yang and Erin K. Robinson, whose bold illustrations bring a fresh creative spark to this beloved holiday tradition.
The Holiday Train Show is free and open to the public, and on view through February 2026. The New York Transit Museum Gallery & Store at Grand Central is open Monday through Friday, 10am to 7:30pm; Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 6pm; and is closed on major holidays. The Gallery is located in the shuttle passage on 42nd Street and Park Avenue, adjacent to the Station Master’s Office.

Volunteer Day at NY Common Pantry
Volunteer with us and support New York Common Pantry!
Support New York Common Pantry + volunteer with us on Feb 7 at their Choice Pantry Manhattan location! We will be volunteering at 8 E 109th St with two shift options (Morning (9A-1P) or Afternoon (12:30P-4P), with ~20 people per shift.
We will be packing and distributing free packages of groceries to low income families and individuals. Specific tasks include packing produce, assembling and distributing each pantry package, and other activities as needed. All volunteers must complete a liability waiver on or before February 7.
We are asking for donations ($20+) ahead of volunteering to ensure attendance + a gift for all attendees (hint, pick your own full-size beauty item from Rebeka's collection). The first 40 people to confirm via the form below and donate at the link below will have a spot at this event. Please donate with your name so I can track attendance! If you donate anonymously, send me an email afterwards.
Note: we have to do it this way with donating $ because A) there is much more demand (100s of you are interested and we only have 40 spots and B) We want people to actually show up so hopefully this makes people accountable.
More about Common Pantry: For 45 years, New York Common Pantry (NYCP) has been a trusted source of support for New Yorkers facing food insecurity.
With 1 in 4 New Yorkers facing poverty, NYCP steps in where public programs fall short, ensuring New Yorkers can continue to access healthy foods, hygiene services, nutrition education, and other necessary resources.
Their holistic approach addresses not only participants’ immediate need for food but also confronts the underlying causes of food insecurity through our interconnected programs – food pantry (Choice Pantry) and meal distribution programs (Hot Meals), homeless visitor services (Project Dignity), case management focused on resource acquisition (Help 365), and nutrition education (Live Healthy!).

PETA Fur Is Dead
PETA is headed to Hell’s Kitchen for a “Fur Is Dead” event on Friday, when PETA will be collecting unwanted fur coats from those who would no longer be caught dead in it after learning how animals suffer in the cruel fur industry.
It’s happening underneath our wallscape (at 7th Ave. and 53rd St.) that invites repentant fur owners to start the new year on a clean slate with a tax-deductible fur donation.
It’s for a good cause: PETA’s fur donation program sends the items to homeless and women’s shelters, to wildlife sanctuaries to be used as bedding for orphaned animals, or overseas to refugee children in cold climates. PETA has donated thousands of fur coats to refugees and displaced people worldwide, including in Jordan and Ukraine, in recent years.
The event details are as follows: Friday, January 9th at 12 noon, at the intersection of 7th Avenue & 53rd Street (near the HOPE sculpture).
