Led by Vanessa Niu, a core member of Urban Word NYC and the Youth Poet Laureate program, this series explores the intersections of heritage, artistry, and activism. Through discussions with cultural leaders and artists, Chinatown Renaissance highlights art as a tool for liberation, fostering deeper community relationships and empowering young people to embrace their identities.
π¨ The series kicks off with a panel discussion + arts & crafts workshop, featuring Vanessa in conversation with architect, artist, and activist Dong-Ping Wong.
Some cool kids may already be familiar with Dong-Pingβs work! His architecture firm, Food New York, helped Virgil Abloh bring the first-ever Off-White store to life and designed Hypebeastβs NYC headquarters.
Activists may know him as one of the visionaries behind +POOL, a dynamic civic design project creating a community pool for Chinatown. And Dong-Ping has been a sort of coach and connector, inspiring our student Vanessa to design her own world, using identity as a blueprint.
π£οΈ YOU are invited to the convo. Come join us as we dive into conversations on identity and community through art, ideation, and open dialogue.
Letβs build, create, and connect. Your voice is essential in this space!
